Mustang Trek – Itinerary
Day 1: Kathmandu to Besisahar
Drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar through scenic hills, rivers, and countryside.
Day 2: Besisahar to Chame
Continue by road to Chame, the administrative center of Manang, surrounded by spectacular mountains.
Day 3: Chame to Pisang
Trek through pine forests and beautiful mountain landscapes to Pisang.
Day 4: Pisang to Manang
Cross several high passes and continue through the dry Himalayan landscape to Ghami.
Day 5: Acclimatization in Manang
Walk along scenic trails and visit traditional settlements, monasteries, and ancient mani walls.
Day 6: Manang to Khangsar
Trek toward the historic walled city of Lo Manthang, the cultural center of Upper Mustang.
Day 7: Khangsar to Tilicho Base Camp
Explore ancient monasteries, palaces, traditional houses, and the surrounding cultural sites.
Day 8: Tilicho Lake Excursion & Return
Visit the famous Chhoser caves and nearby monasteries before returning to Lo Manthang.
Day 9: Tilicho Base Camp to Yak Kharka
Begin the return journey through scenic valleys and colorful cliffs to Drakmar.
Day 10: Yak Kharka to Thorong Phedi
Continue through the rugged Mustang landscape and return to Chele.
Essential Information
Mustang Trek is a moderate to challenging Himalayan trek through the dry, rugged landscapes of the Mustang region. The trek reaches high elevations, with Lo Manthang at around 3,840 m. Trekkers should be prepared for long walking days, changing weather, strong winds, and cold temperatures at higher elevations. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are generally ideal seasons, while Upper Mustang can also be suitable during the monsoon due to its rain-shadow location. Proper trekking equipment, travel insurance, a licensed guide, and the required permits are essential. Acclimatization, hydration, and a steady pace are recommended for a safe and enjoyable journey.
