6. Upper Mustang Trek
Upper Mustang Trek lies to north of Annapurna area at an altitude of 4,000m in Dhaulagiri zone. Mustang is the hinterland enriched with mainly barren ridges, deep canyons, eroded cliffs and Moraine valleys. Its landscape is unequaled for it has an astonishing wilderness, untouched scenery, snow capped peaks, fabulous 16th century monasteries and many other exclusive attractions. The view of windswept Kali-Gandaki valley, vast spaces around Kagbeni and vast ridgelines that sprawl high mountains provide an emotional experience hard to find.
It is still popular as the Kingdom of Lo. Upper Mustang lost its official monarchical recognition with the new reforms in the Government of Nepal in 2008. But, the last monarch, was Jigme Dorje Palbar Bista.
This is the reason Upper Mustang fame as the “Last Lost Kingdom of Nepal”. Until 1992,  foreigners were not allowed to visit the place which earned Upper Mustang the term ‘Forbidden Kingdom’.
This history of Upper Mustang made it one of the most popular trekking routes of Nepal. The territory of Upper Mustang remained isolated from the 14th century.  Such isolation from foreign world rendered it possible for this place to preserve its culture and heritage. The land untouched by the modern realms.
